Vallillee Family Lawyers is a close-knit boutique family practice in London, Ontario dealing exclusively with family law and OCL matters in Southwestern Ontario. We are currently hiring a full-time law clerk or legal assistant to join our small, close-knit team. We are open to considering candidates who wish to work flexible or part-time hours. on a trial basis, however the position is in-person at our downtown London, Ontario, Canada office.
Job duties and responsibilities for this position include:
- answering telephone and emails from existing and clients prospective clients (cold calls), from opposing counsel, and other individuals who interact with our office;
- running conflict checks and opening new files;
- drafting correspondence;
- scheduling appointments;
- updating calendar and tickler system;
- meeting with clients and drafting financial statements, NFP statements, pleadings, affidavits, briefs, Divorcemate calculations, etc.;
- arrange service of documents using our process server, serving documents that do not require personal or special service, and filing documents with the court;
- preparing draft orders for issuing;
- processing client payments, and potentially some legal aid and private billing functions.
We are looking for someone interested in working as part of a small, collaborative team, and who is ready to hit the ground running with a working knowledge of the essential Family Law Rules, family law court forms, the family court process, and who is personable, friendly and enjoys dealing with clients and members of the public.
Position and Compensation:
- Full time, permanent, in-person position in downtown London, Ontario
- Starting salary of $43,500 – $47,500/year, depending on experience and education. Candidates without the requisite education or experience who would fill more of a legal assistant or reception role may be considered at a lowee starting salary.
- 3 weeks paid holidays in addition to some additional paid time off during our closure over the Christmas/New Year holiday period
- Benefits including extended health, prescription coverage, vision, and dental following 3-month probationary period
- Projected start date is September 5, 2023
Requirements:
- Graduation from a law clerk or legal assistant post-secondary program or suitable family law administrative support experience in lieu of formal education preferred. We will provide training as/if needed, and are willing to consider recent graduates with reasonably applicable skills who are excited about this possible career path.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, and excellent client service.management skills.
- Complete confidence with modern office technologies including Office/Outlook, and ability to learn/use other software like Cosmolex and other cloud-based platforms.
- Disclosure of any criminal record for which a record suspension has not been granted is required, but is not an absolute bar to employment depending on the nature of the record.
